"LA ROUTE DES FRUITS ET DES VINS"

Fruit trees have been growing in the Hautes-Alpes for a very long time.
Pears, apples, prunes, walnuts and almonds are traditionnel products since the sixteenth century.
Long periods of sunshine, low level of humidity and important temperature gaps between night and day, contribute to favorable production of very high quality apples, pears and peaches.
The Golden Delicious apples coming from the mountains and
the Passe Crassane pears
benefit from a deserved renown in the finest grocery shops in every big european town.

From the eleventh century, the vineyards took an important place in the Val de Durance. They grew on the sunbathed hill sides, around the villages, and on the riversides called here"cuestas".
For 30 years now, the fruit growing has been slowly replacing the wine-growing.
Under this mediterranean climate, the most important incomes came from the vineyards, in particular around the Plain of Théüs, the Tallard area and Vallée de l'Avance.
